PHPS41120 Health Technology Assessment

Students will learn how to appraise a health economics analysis critically and how to prepare a Health Technology document.
We will cover the principles of health economics evaluation, their structure and a basic introduction to different models of HEE.
The course will also cover the understanding of a Budget Impact Analysis and will aim that students understand the differences between cost-effectiveness and affordability.
This module is suitable for professionals working in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry, health consulting companies or government bodies needing a better understanding of the methodology.

Learning Outcomes:

- Understand the role that HTA has in the decision-making process to fund new medical programs, new drugs or medical devices.
- Identify the different types of Health Economic Evaluations
- Identify the different models used ( we won't cover the models in depth)
- Understand the sources used to prepare a health technology assessment
-Critically appraise a health economic evaluation paper and an HTA report.
