On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Critically evaluate recent research findings in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases;
2. Discuss existing and novel therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases;
3. Discuss cognitive function and critically evaluate the mechanisms of action of cognition modulating drugs.
This module covers advanced topics in the cognition, neurodegeneration and psychiatric illness. Topics covered will include neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia. The module will focus on novel therapeutic strategies under development in these disease states. In addition, the pharmacological manipulation of cognitive functions such as memory and learning will be discussed.
