PEP40640 Research Design & Methods

Academic Year 2017/2018

This module introduces students to the key concepts and principles of research design and methods. The module is divided into two parts. The first part introduces research design in the social sciences and focuses on the different approaches to research design both in terms of the underlying philosophy and practice. The second part of the module introduces the basic approach to research methods and will provide an introduction to both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The module consists of both formal lectures and practical workshops, and requires that students read critical practical and theoretical literature on research methodology. The module prepares students for undertaking a range of research related projects and, in particular, the course will prepare students to undertake a significant piece of individual research in the form of their Master’s thesis.
