NMHS30300 Clinical Placement 4A (Internship)

Academic Year 2020/2021

The clinical placement element of internship period is designed to facilitate the development of competencies in all domains of competence. Students will be provided with opportunities to observe and, where appropriate, to engage in patient care, under the supervision of a registered nurse. Students will partake in care as members of the care team and will be given opportunities to participate in the skills of critical analysis, problem solving, decision making and reflection. The credit load of the module reflects the student effort hours required to achieve the learning outcomes.

This module is part of the essential clinical requirements for professional registration. The student must pass all individual clinical placements within the module before a pass grade can be awarded for the module. All clinical placement modules must be passed and all of the clinical time completed for the current stage before the student can progress to the next stage of the programme.

Students must successfully pass 4A and 4B internship clinical placement DoCAT/NCAD before progressing to 4C internship clinical placement.

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Key teaching and learning approaches used in the module may include: active/task-based learning; peer/multidisciplinary team learning, reflective learning; learning during the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for children and their families and case-based learning.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Feedback on clinical performance during the placement will be given to the student by the Preceptor, Co-preceptor, Clinical Nurse Manager/Facilitator, Clinical Placement Coordinator and personal tutor (at student/clinical site request).
