MIS30150 Strategic Decision Making in the Digital World

Academic Year 2023/2024

Managers are faced with the challenge of crafting and implementing timely and accurate strategic decisions helping organisations to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace. In doing so, it is essential to make optimal use Digital Business applications for data collection, analysis, and decision making.

This applied, project-based module utilising Bloomberg terminals, will allow students to gain important insights into several industry sectors in order to draft strategic investment ideas and recommendations.

Students will participate and compete in the annual Bloomberg global trading challenge and play an online business simulation developed by Harvard Business Publishing.

NO textbook purchase is required for the module, however, students need to purchase a license worth US$25 to complete both the Harvard Business simulation and Harvard ManageMentor (Digital Intelligence) course.

Learning Outcomes:

On successfully completion of the module, students should be able to

(i) Demonstrate a deep understanding of key issues surrounding strategic management decision making.

(iii) Evaluate and discuss organisations’ market performance utilising Bloomberg’s infrastructure.

(iv) Understand the manager's role in data interpretation and business recommendation formulation utilising an online business simulation.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Mixture of synchronous online and Face-to-face lectures, Bloomberg lab sessions, and online business simulation administration. Students will be able to follow an interactive study guide utilising Augmented Reality-driven study and learning content.
