Academic Year 2020/2021

This module is a research project that will be carried out independently by the student in Stage 4 of the BSc Microbiology degree in either a university, hospital or industrial laboratory under supervision of a qualified researcher. This module is only available to BSc Microbiology students in stage 4 as a core requirement.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should able to:Carry out an indepent scientific research project under supervision of an senior supervisor. Independently plan and excute experiments. Interpret the results of experiments and draw conclusion. Formally present research findings in written and oral form.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module is a research project and so much of the learning occurs in the laboratory environment over the course of the first semester. The student also learns how to complete a research thesis and present this work in the form of a short oral presentation.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students can submit draft versions of their thesis to their supervisor and will receive feedback prior to submission of the thesis. Students can also receive feedback on their oral presentation or thesis grades post assessment from the module coordinator.
