MEDN30000 Therapeutics

Academic Year 2023/2024

The module builds on your prior knowledge of pharmacology and pathology. It is designed to help you integrate practical diagnostic information with therapeutic management so that you learn how to practice medicine in an evidence-based manner. The content focuses on common diseases and their management that you would be expected to recognise and treat as a junior doctor. Skills-based activities, such as learning how to interpret diagnostic tests, administer medicines and write prescriptions, are included. Students should understand EBM approaches and patient safety issues by the end of this module.

Professionalism:
Professionalism is integral to and will be assessed throughout the module. Any behaviour which is considered to be in breach of professional behaviour as set out in the School's Statement on Fitness to Practice (in addition to the University's policy) will be formally noted.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Automated feedback on prescribing CALs in weeks 5-8 is built into these tutorials. After completing the CALs with supervision and assistance, the students later have the ability to self-assess in their own time. Mock MCQ quiz will be made available to students in week 9 to help prepare students for exit MCQ. Group/class feedback on drug chart assignments will be made available at the end of this module to highlight common errors/pitfalls in completing these tasks.
