Dermatological (skin and hair) issues comprise up to 25% of a General Practitioner’s workload, however dermatology remains poorly represented in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

This module is entirely online distance learning, (September to May) and designed for busy health care professionals. It focuses on common dermatological conditions presenting to primary care. The programme consists of approx. 20-hours of experienced consultant delivered teaching. Four lecture blocks, cover a comprehensive knowledgebase of clinical dermatology incorporating an introduction to dermatological terminology and approach to the patient, Inflammatory Dermatoses including hidradenitis suppurativa, Cutaneous manifestations of Systemic Disease, Skin of colour, Chronic pruritus/skin of the elderly, Bullous eruptions, Drug rashes, Nurse treatments and Paediatric Dermatology.


Participants will develop a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of dermatological conditions and enhance useful, applicable knowledge of common clinical dermatology. Lectures are patient centred and relevant to a primary care setting. Participants will also develop an understanding of the impact of dermatological conditions, referral pathways and management.

All lectures are delivered by approximately 25 of Ireland top Specialist Registered Consultant Dermatologists, in addition to a lecture by an clinical nurse specialist in dermatology with over ten year’s experience.

Webinars are live and interactive, with a Question & Answer session after each. Clinical image based vignettes will be made available at least once a month, encouraging self-directed learning and a blended learning approach.

Each consultant led lecture will be followed by a brief clinical pearls session, delivered by a dermatology registrar in training.

• Each month at least one clinical image and case discussion will be shared with delegates.
• Optional on-site patient-based clinical session (not credit-bearing and capped at approx. 30 students)

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Interactive lectures followed by case-based assessment format using MCQ at the end of each trimester, which will present various clinical based scenarios, to facilitate problem-solving, critical analysis and evidence-based care.
