LARC40480 Psychology of Landscape

Academic Year 2018/2019

Psychology of Space

This module supports students interested in investigating urban space, urban life and (our own) human responses to the urban environment. Invited lecturer Dr. Silvia Loeffler introduces the city as a site of cultural thought and looks at the dialectics of outside and inside, and the imprints of our spatial memories. We explore urban space as stage setting for conflicting emotions. Our focus is on responses to public space, and how we interact with the public sphere in ‘private’ and ‘intimate’ ways. Such an approach supports the understanding of why we belong to certain spaces and are disconnected from others. It explores the concept of who ‘we’ are in the wide variety of spatial contexts.
