LARC20160 Landscape Studio 2B

Academic Year 2020/2021

This module builds on the earlier studio modules by introducing students to projects of a larger physical scale and addressing some of the contemporary challenges facing those involved in landscape architecture. Taking the peri-urban fringe as a starting point this studio looks at notions of urban and rural and considers issues of urban biodiversity and ecosystems services. Studio project will involve precedent studies, site survey and a series of design and research projects.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This is a design studio where students carry out active-based learning. It is supported occasional lectures by staff and invited experts. An excursion or site visits is an important part of the learning and this generally takes place throughout the module. Students are required to develop their design work and to make presentations in the studio. These are attended by staff, students and invited critics.

Feedback Strategy/Strategies

• Feedback individually to students, post-assessment

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Each submission will be made by the student to staff and other students taking part in the module as part of studio-based 'crits'. The assessment in crits is a form of immediate feedback. Crits are timetabled for each submission stage. Staff will assess and grade the work presented at the crit and give written feedback and grades to the student afterward on an individual basis. Feedback will be via email and can be oral (for further clarification) if requested by the student. The assessment stages will be: - Green Infrastructure Research and Design Task: oral presentation of graphics with supporting texts - Planting Tasks: a number of design exercises with an oral presentation of graphics with supporting texts - Planting Plan: workshop with graphic submission - Portfolio: summary of module work with graphics and supporting texts
