The understanding of different landscape elements and components derived from observations in the Irish landscape:
familiarity with different types of natural, designed and managed landscapes;
development of skills in spatial observation and recording;
preliminary understanding of landscape context and scale;
the understanding of key elements in landscape architectural design;
basic competency in site survey, analysis and representation;
ability to communicate verbally, graphically and through models essential findings / results of research, analysis and design;
ability to conduct research using the UCD library.
Key topics addressed in this module are:
the Irish landscape - a typology;
landscape elements - topography, vegetation
design elements - space, motion, focal point;
site and context - research, survey and analysis;
strategic and conceptual design;
scale and measurement;
(hand) drawing & (model) making;
computer graphics and lay-out.

Students are asked to present their work to their tutors and the class on a regular basis. Their work will be discussed in class and verbal feed back will be given during the session. According to the criteria set out in the brief marks and their weighting will be released within 3 weeks after the presentation. Individual feedback will be given on request after the release of the marks.
