Academic Year 2020/2021

This module is designed for students who have a B2 level of French and wish to improve their cultural and linguistic skills in a global economy. Students will improve their understanding of French with the support of video. Skills will be integrated and focus on accuracy and fluency in speaking and writing and improvement of reading and listening skills. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills through the preparation of structured presentations on longer, demanding topics. Well-structured, detailed texts will be written on complex subjects. Aspects of life and culture in French-speaking regions will be introduced through written and spoken texts and classroom discussions.


This module will be delivered via small group teaching with classes having a maximum of 18 students. Students will also have access to extra resources and materials via the Virtual Learning Environment, Brightspace.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
• give a detailed presentation on a complex subject (spoken production)
• discuss a detailed subject in a fluent manner (spoken interaction)
• understand the main points in a wide range of spoken texts (listening)
• recognise significant points in complex texts (reading)
• write detailed texts on complex subjects (writing)


Students who achieve at least a B grade at the end of this module are deemed to have reached Level B2.2 of the Common European Framework

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Enquiry-based teaching including creative and critical thinking and communication skills. The stress is on the enhancement of students’ communication skills and the importance of interaction in the classroom
