This module is an introduction to the research process and methods used in information and library science. It covers the early stages of the research process, including identifying important and realistic research topics, critiquing literature and conducting a literature review, the role and uses of methods, research ethics, and presenting research. The module is a core module in the MLIS, GradDip, MA, and MSc programmes.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify a problem relevant to your programme and explain in depth how it can be addressed using research methods and associated concepts and theories.2. Critique and evaluate an example(s) of research from existing literature relevant to your programme.3. Demonstrate how you have considered ethical dimensions of research throughout the module.4. Provide insight into how research methods and design can be utilised to meet your future professional goals.5. Work effectively as a team to determine a solution and communicate the results from collected data using statistical analysis.
