IS30340 Managing Information Technology for Information Professionals

This module provides both a broad introduction to the functioning of information technology (IT) and a focus on the technologies that allow the creation, storage and access of information. IT has its own language and conventions; this module aims to provide familiarity with both. It will be of particular relevance to information professionals who need to liaise and effectively communicate with information technologists.


This module is introductory and is not appropriate for students with a background in IT.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module you should be able to:
1. Summarise the significant historical events and concepts associated with the development
of the personal computer.
2. Identify the main components of a personal computer and explain how they operate.
3. Use programming languages to develop item descriptions.
4. Design and create a basic database system for a digital collection.
