IA40630 Personal Branding TUD

Academic Year 2021/2022

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MODULE IS FOR STUDENTS THAT ARE REGISTERED TO THE PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN TRANSVERSAL SKILLS ONLY. THIS MODULE IS NOT OPEN TO OTHER UCD STUDENTS.

The way a person presents him or herself to current or future employers can have a significant impact on their career success. Personal branding is a popular theme for internet bloggers and social media posts of varying degrees of usefulness and credibility. However, this module engages with personal branding from both an academic learning and experiential learning perspective. According to Gorbatov et al, “Sitting at the junction of marketing, sociology, communication, psychology,
organizational behaviour, and some would claim even accounting, personal branding has emerged as a means of attaining career success in the context of more temporary employment systems and project based work structures.” This module seeks to build understanding of not only theoretical aspects of personal branding and self-presentation, but also aims to provide instruction in the practical skills necessary to build a viable and vibrant personal brand strategy, thus, helping participants to enhance their professional image and maximise career opportunities.
