IA40440 Leadership Development for Educators

Academic Year 2023/2024

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MODULE IS PROGRAMME BASED. THIS MODULE IS NOT OPEN TO OTHER UCD STUDENTS.

The aim of this module is to enable participants to reflect upon and develop their creative & innovative leadership knowledge, skills and mindset to enable them to successfully lead change and drive innovation within their environment and to help them to become a recognised leader for innovation in their education setting.

The module offers a carefully constructed, challenge-based learning experience that will contribute to a mind-set change and equip learners with the leadership skills to effectively engage with others, identify needs & opportunities and to lead innovation & change within their environment.

Participants will reflect on their own strengths, weaknesses, values and principles and have the opportunity to build on their preferred leadership style. Participants will practice building consensus, influencing and engaging others to be the best that they can be, whilst building the resilience and grit required to overcome obstacles to successful innovation.

Participants will also hear from guest speakers who are leading change and innovation at both local and national levels, who will share their own leadership journeys and lessons learnt.

Learners will actively participate in communities of practice and intentionally expand their professional networks.

Note: This module is run as part of the Professional Certificate / Diploma in Creativity & Innovation in Education.

UCD Innovation Academy

At the UCD Innovation Academy, we are a group of Educator Practitioners with extensive real-world experience as academics, educators, business and social entrepreneurs, tech thinkers, creative professionals and design thinking practitioners.

We take an action-oriented approach to learning, with a combination of individual, group and class tasks and activities, including discussions, presentations and reflection. All of our teaching is grounded in academic rigor, but our focus is on learning by doing in a real-world context.
