GRK20140 Intermediate Greek

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module is the third stage of an introduction to the ancient Greek language. Students are expected to have taken GRK10090 Greek Language I and GRK10100 Greek Language II, or equivalent. The textbook is Reading Greek, 2nd edition (2 vols), published by Cambridge University Press. The module will complete and revise Reading Greek, starting from section 12F. By the end of the module you will have completed the introduction to ancient Greek grammar and, time permitting, will have been introduced to unadapted texts. Students are expected to follow the module handbook in order to complete exercises and translations set, and to revise key grammar and vocabulary for each unit of the textbook. In class students will be taken through new grammatical concepts and come prepared to discuss their translations and the ideas contained in the texts. PLEASE NOTE that the School of Classics reserves the right to withdraw modules in the period up to and including the first week of the teaching trimester.
