Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The student must demonstrate that they can successfully apply the specialist knowledge gained within this Advanced Research Techniques module to the particular scientific problem(s) being tackled in their research project, under the guidance of their supervisor(s) and graduate studies panel. In the first instance, the supervisor(s), in collaboration with the post-graduate student identifies particular student- and project-specific training needs (e.g. in laboratory, field or computational methods) and suitable training courses are found, typically in external organisations (in academic institutions and in industry). The student is deemed to have passed the module is they can demonstrate to the satisfaction of their supervisor(s) that they have mastered the techniques, as evidenced by results produced using these techniques and presented at international conferences, in peer-reviewed publications and/or in industry reports.
