FR20020 French language II a: Grammaire et syntaxe françaises

Academic Year 2020/2021

This is a language module aimed at learners who have consolidated CEFR Level B1. It builds on the foundation provided in Language Ia and Ib. It enables students to develop competence in the written and spoken expression of opinions and ideas, to improve reading and listening comprehension and oral production, and to consolidate mastery of a number of essential grammatical structures.

Students who have achieved at least a B grade in this module are deemed to be successfully progressing towards the CEFR level B2.

The weekly lecture will be online. Students can then choose from either an on-campus or an online seminar for both their written class and their aural / oral class.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students should have developed their ability to: identify and employ correctly complex syntactical and lexical structures that facilitate communication and expression at an advanced level; write lexically and syntactically sophisticated short texts, expressing opinions and ideas and drawing on documents from Francophone media; follow discussions in complex spoken French (including Francophone media), and display comprehension of salient details; express opinions and ideas in syntactically and lexically complex spoken French, with attention to pronunciaton and intonation.
