Academic Year 2018/2019

An essential requirement for a future career in the public or private sectors is to appreciate the importance of innovation within research and also the impact of that research. Design thinking is a process used in this module to look at your research from the end users perspective. This 3 day module uses a combination of theory and teaching, with practical examples, workshops to show you the process for understanding what questions you are trying to answer and what needs you are trying to meet. Postgraduates at all stages of their research will find this module of use

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students should be able to:
- understand the role of design thinking in innovation
- Describe examples of innovation driving progress in commercial and non commercial sectors
- write confidently about the impact of their research, what they are doing, for who, and why
- develop a slide set summarising the impact their research has
