Academic Year 2023/2024

This module focuses on preparing students for their summer project - either a thesis or an internship. The module will focus on developing the students' research skills, as well as preparing them for the labour market.

It consists of
- Classes to help prepare students to conduct a research thesis
- Classes to help prepare students to find a suitable internship
- Classes to help prepare students for entering the labour market
- Seminars by invited speakers on academic research and on working as a professional economist

Learning Outcomes:

There are four main learning outcomes for this module. Students that complete this module successfully will have a solid understanding of:
1. How to conduct a piece of research for a project/thesis
2. How professional economists undertake research and present it to their peers
3. How to apply for a professional job/internship and prepare for job/internship interviews
4. What it is like to work as a professional economist.

Indicative Module Content:

This module will include topics such as:
- Economic resources from the Library & online
- Data sources to do research - accessing micro and macro datasets
- Information on MSc thesis & how to write your thesis
- Information on how to prepare a CV & interview skills
- Visits from professional economists who will talk to you about how they use economics (and economic research) in their jobs
