CHN30060 Chinese Economy

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module aims to provide students with a basic understanding of the contemporary Chinese economic system and an analytical framework for the study of modern Chinese business behaviour. It covers 10 key topics which together serve to introduce students to China's economic reform and give a comprehensive account of the modern Chinese economy. Students will develop the ability to comprehend and analyse major theoretical and policy issues in China's economic development and transformation and their implications for the business environment and practices.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, students should have greater familiarity with the key economic magnitudes and institutional settings of the contemporary Chinese economy. They should have developed an awareness of key issues in China's economic development and their implications for the rest of the world. They should be able to explain the general process of economic reform in China and its achievements and constraints. They should be familiar with the interrelationship between the Chinese economic system and current Chinese business environment, decision-making process and market entry.
