On successful completion of this module, students should:
• Understand what AIDS is and how it affects the world
• Understand how AIDS affects Ireland
• Know the HIV life cycle and how this cycle offers different targets to kill the virus
• Have a detailed knowledge of established therapies and new developments on drugs aimed at each of these targets
• Have a basic understanding of the biochemistry development in the treatment of AIDS and the research on a possible vaccine
• Understand how AIDS is being treated in a Dublin hospital
