On completion of the module the student will have gained experience of working in a research environment and of devising and executing solutions to research problems. They will have acquired knowledge and understanding of a range of chemical and instrumental methods and of the design of research projects. They will also be able to carry out an effective literature search relating to the development of a research project. In addition, they will have gained experience in the presentation of scientific work as posters, oral communications and written reports.

This module is intended for students in the final year of an Honours Chemistry degree program or postgraduate students in a Chemical discipline. Other students wishing to take this module must have a comparable background in chemistry and must consult the School.

Formative feedback should be continuous from both the PI and any lab supervisor. Formative feedback on the thesis introduction given following submission of a thesis introduction in trimester 2 week 1.
