BMGT45430 Business Strategy

Academic Year 2023/2024

A central purpose of strategy is to ensure long-term viability and economic performance of a firm. This module focuses on the main theoretical principles that explain firms’ strategies and guide firms’ choices in the creation of value. Emphasis will be put on applying these principles, along with the concepts, tools and techniques of strategic analysis, to real life business situations in the context of not only the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, but also other industries. We will discuss how firms gain and sustain competitive advantage and how they can grow their business. We will also engage in critical thinking to expose the limits of the applicability of the theoretical principles, tools and techniques of strategy. In doing so, we will take various perspectives and consider societal and environmental impacts of strategy.
