BMGT30460 Personal Development Portfolio

Academic Year 2020/2021

It can be difficult in a busy academic programme and especially in your final year to find time to think about what you are doing, where you are now, and where you are going. This module is an opportunity to do just that. Reflective practice, continuous personal and professional and career planning are life skills that improve personal experience and are valued by organisations. Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) takes the skills of strategic management (situational analysis, goal setting, planning, implementation, review) and applies them to the self. PDP is an opportunity to record and reflect on the tangible skills, experiences and achievements you have developed over the duration of your BComm degree, within and outside the curriculum; to engage with the career and development experiences and insights of others; and to focus and inform your further academic, personal, and career development.

During the PDP capstone module, you will be exposed to career and personal development lectures, workshops and learning materials, and are encouraged to develop and share additional resources. PDP is a process, specific to you, depending on your investment and initiative, to collect, review, reflect and act on your personal goals and career related capabilities and needs, drawing on the resources and opportunities within and outside your studies.

Teamwork, interpersonal communication, conflict management and leadership are some of the skills you will have developed during the two or three years of your studies to date. Your ability to articulate, demonstrate and use these skills will be instrumental to your securing employment and developing your career in the long term. In this module, you will be expected to interpret your experiences and competences using the theories and frameworks discussed in class and found in academic literature.

Assessment reflects the depth and quality of engagement with the PDP module, rather than levels of personal achievement.
