BMGT20200 Studies in Global Operations

Academic Year 2020/2021

The module considers the operational and strategic challenges involved in operating a business in a global environment. Business operations are at the heart of designing, producing and delivering innovative products and services through sustainable supply chains. In the globalised economy it is increasingly difficult to design and manage sustainable solutions which balance the social, environmental and economic impacts of the operations. This course provides a framework to examine end-to-end supply chains from product and service innovation through to customer service. It combines latest thinking on global business practice with an applied approach to finding practical solutions to current business problems.
Topics covered include supply network design, lean/agile supply chains, purchasing and supply management, inventory management, outsourcing, transport and logistics and sustainability.

The module is taught using case studies and a global supply chain simulation game to explore the application of operational and strategic frameworks to global businesses. In addition, self-regulated learning and peer review and assessment play a significant role in developing lifelong learning skills.
