BIOL40710 Into the footsteps of a researcher (JLU)

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module will see the student being immersed in a research team of their choice. The students will be part of the discussion group within the research team which typically includes several professors, post-docs and PhD and MSc students. They should be presented with an overview of the type of data which is collected and how it is analysed. They will learn about division of labour within the team, training in modern techniques and at the end the student should be able to demonstrate to a third party.

The students will:
-be able to handle questions in the team;
-be able to present a proper and credible question to be scientifically examined by the team;
-be able to integrate results from different disciplines in the time allotted;
-acquire data management, presentation and social skills;
-learn to develop professional contacts and develop strategies for continuous professional development.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module is delivered through an immersed 'work placement' within a research group and includes field/lab work as well as group discussion and self-reflective and task-based activities.
