BIOL40300 Data Management and Interpretation

The module is a combined workshop and seminar series for candidates on the Earth and Natural Sciences Doctoral Studies Programme but is open to any student interested in the broad areas covered by the Programme.

Students will attend a series of workshops in the area of data managment for research projects. Students will also prepare and present scientific documents (poster and paper) developed in line with best practise. Students will also present their work in a public forum to interested students and academics in their field and beyond.

This module will only run in the Academic Session 2015-16 if there are sufficient student numbers. Please contact the module co-ordinator to express your interest before enroling for this module.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and seminars across a wide range of disparate yet interconnected topics. The students are exposed to new, innovative and novel research concepts and methods as presented by experts in the field and peers from other disciplines. The students will interact in open fora and small groups, both with other students studying similar topics with students from different disciplines. This will foster inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary discussion and interaction. Students will have to present their work to both scientific and non-scientific audiences, strengthening their public speaking repertoire. Students will also be expected to prepare and produce a scientific poster.
