On completion of this module students should be able to:-Understand fundamental concepts of molecular structure and chemical reactivity-To understand fundamental concepts of cell biology and biochemistry, generation and storage of metabolic energy, metabolism of nitrogenous compounds, DNA and RNA and heredity.
Indicative Module Content:In the Chemistry component students are introduced to fundamental concepts of molecular structure and of chemical reactivity. This includes a brief overview of the common functional groups including chemical and physical properties and an introduction to biomolecules. The Biochemistry course covers the biology and biochemistry of the cell, generation and storage of metabolic energy, metabolism of nitrogenous compounds, DNA & RNA, transmission of genetic information and heredity.
