This module covers the practice of building procurement, contract administration and associated professional services. This includes Building Procurement (pre-tender and post-tender from inception to completion and operation), Design Team and Consultants, Construction Contracts (standard forms of contract and alternatives), Project Management (theory and practice related to construction projects), Project Programming, Cost Control, Risk Management & Construction Insurances.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this Module the student should be able to-Demonstrate an ability to professionally advise a client throughout all stages of a project from inception to completion.-Demonstrate a good understanding of standard/ non-standard forms of contracts, methods of procurement and contract administration.-Demonstrate an ability to critically appraise contractual issues and to formulate solutions (in the context of administering a contract and providing professional advice).-Demonstrate an ability to effectively manage a project and to implement effective cost control systems. -Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of risk management and the requirements of construction insurances.-Demonstrate an ability to initiate and manage a good system of record keeping, production of documents and circulation of information. -Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and comprehensively.
