This module includes all areas of law and practice related to construction in Ireland, including the Legal Framework, EU Issues (relating to Construction Legislation), Planning & Development Legislation (Planning Law, Procedure and Practice), Health & Safety Legislation (Law, Procedure & Practice), Building Control Legislation (Law, Procedure and Practice), Conservation Legislation (International Treaties and Policy, National Monuments Act, Planning & Development Legislation related to Protected Structures and Special Amenity Areas etc.), Sustainability, Environmental and other legislation relating to construction/ built environment, procurement and architectural practice.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this Module the student should be able to-Demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding of all current relevant legislation and regulations relating to Planning & Development, Health & Safety, Building Control, Conservation, Sustainability, Environmental, and other legislation relating to construction/ built environment, procurement and architectural practice.-Demonstrate an ability to identify the legislation and regulations relevant to a project and an ability to professionally advise a client in relation to compliance and statutory requirements.-Demonstrate an ability to apply all relevant legislation, regulations and `best practice' standards throughout the design and construction of a project.-Demonstrate an ability to implement effective quality control and audit procedures in relation to compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements.-Demonstrate an ability to recognise his/her own limitations and an ability to identify other sources of information and expertise where required.-Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and comprehensively.
