ARCT40630 Sustainable Building Systems

Academic Year 2018/2019

The module explores the processes and systems to be applied to aid the conservation of resources such as energy, materials and water and the reduction of waste through the integration of innovative facade technologies and application of alternative energy sources for building and neighbourhood scales.

It evaluates technologies, components and materials suitable for zero energy new build and cost effective retrofit that provide healthy indoor environments while delivering innovative high performance building envelope solutions.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of reduction in use strategies for energy, materials, water and waste
- Develop a low energy building envelope, new or retrofit, appropriate to building function and scale
- Understand the impact which building materials have on the indoor environment and health
- Integrate appropriate alternative energy technologies in buildings.
