ARCH41400 Heritage project (online)

This module will develop skills in research and scientific writing through investigation of a selected heritage topic. The aim of this project is to enhance the students’ ability to formulate a research question, apply an appropriate research methodology and demonstrate evidence of sustained analysis and critical engagement with a heritage conservation topic of choice. These skills are essential in addressing conservation and management challenges in a professional capacity and enable participants to take the initiative in designing and implementing possible projects in their professional roles. The module also provides an opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge in a specific area of interest. The exercise will be largely desk-based and will involve a substantial literature review and generally data or information analysis (depending on the subject area).

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1) Select and clearly outline the precise focus of a research topic and undertake primary research relevant to the identified research question.
2) Prepare and present written reports for professional and academic purposes, while demonstrating skills of self-direction and time-management
3) Demonstrate intellectual skills of conceptual, original and independent thinking,
4) Develop a well-structured and logical argument in support of a research question
