ARCH41020 World Heritage and Sustainable Development

This module will examine what 'sustainable development' is, considering how natural and cultural heritage can influence and be influenced by the three pillars of sustainability, an how these affect the management of heritage assests. We will outline and evaluate the effectiveness of international initiatives including the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On completion of this module students should be able to: 1) Define sustainable development and sustainability; 2) Understand key international strategies for achieving sustainable development; 3) Identify the role of culture within the three pillars of sustainable development; and 4) Explain how cultural and natural heritage assets can contribute to achieving sustainable development
