ANSC40010 Applied Animal Reproduction

Academic Year 2021/2022

This module is designed for stage 4 BAgrSc students who have basic knowledge of animal reproduction. It focuses on applied aspects of reproduction that influence fertility, particularly in dairy and beef cows. Students will be exposed to a series of lectures given by UCD staff and external experts on a variety of topics related to reproduction. In addition, students will have to prepare a literature review on a topic related to animal reproduction.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to: Interpret and justify some of the management decisions that influence fertility in domestic animals; Critically evaluate research relating to animal reproduction; Present a clear written review of literature relating to an area of applied reproduction.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The course is delivered through face-to-face lectures delivered by UCD staff and external guest lecturers. Each student will also carry out a project (literature review) on an assigned topic related to animal reproduction.
