ANSC30320 Dairy Business Project

Academic Year 2020/2021

This project is a key element in the curriculum and will be in the form of a case study. The aim of the Dairy Business Project module is to enable students to bring learning outcomes from other modules taken in the degree programme together in a coherent manner, and express those learning outcomes through a completed project. In this module students are assisted to find a mentor farm and will be responsible for gathering appropriate information from that farm for use in their case study. A project will cover general information on the mentor farm and will focus on specific topics and financial performance provided by the module coordinator. Examples of topics include: grassland management, herd health, animal breeding, fertility/reproduction. An appropriate layout and workplan for the project will be agreed with the module coordinator/supervisor. Students will be required to present their project progress in a seminar forum at a time and date to be arranged by the module co-ordinator prior to completion of the project. A general outline model of the project may include: Title of the project; Project objectives; Background information on the farm, Focus topic, Conclusions and Recommendations based on the findings of the project. The project will be submitted to an announced deadline. Some students may be examined on their projects by the external examiner as part of the examination process. Students will maintain regular contact with their supervisor who will assist by reading and commenting on written work and will provide advice and constructive criticism necessary.
